Girl forcibly taken from Secretariat

Jan 21, 2011

In a scene straight out of a Tollywood flick, two lovers created a flutter at Secretariat on Thursday. Even as the couple was waiting to meet the home minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, to seek police protection from their parents, the young woman’s father drove inside the high security Secretariat premises in a Tata Sumo and dragged his daughter into the vehicle before speeding away. Seeing the woman’s family, the young man too fled the scene.
The police personnel at Secretariat watched as mute spectators as the scene played out saying that it was a “family dispute.” The incident took place at about 12 noon when Ms P. Sarika and Mr D. Srikanth, both students of Shivani Degree College in Karimnagar, came to Secretariat to meet the home minister. They had an appointment with the minister at 1 pm.
While they were waiting for the minister, Ms Sarika’s father, Mr Prabhakar, along with other family members, came there. There were heated arguments with Ms Sarika saying that she will commit suicide if she is forcibly taken back.
Mr Prabhakar claimed that Srikanth had collected Rs 3 lakh from him promising a job to his elder daughter. “He did not find her a job, and when I sought my money back, he kidnapped my younger daughter,” he said.
