NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) wants corporates to pitch in to prevent domestic violence. The commission wants companies to provide shelter homes and assistance in medical or legal aid for effective implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.
NCW chairperson Girija Vyas has written to corporate affairs minister Salman Khursheed on the issue hoping to enlist his help.
In a statement, Vyas said corporates as part of their corporate social responsibility must provide "assistance to the aggrieved person with respect to her medical examination, obtaining legal aid and shelter''.
She added that though the Act was in existence since 2005, state governments had generally not able to put in place an effective system for its implementation due to lack of financial resources required for setting up the required infrastructure. "The corporate sector could be actively engaged in establishing shelter homes and funding creation of infrastructure under the PWDV Act,'' she said.
The commission would like corporates to be registered as "service providers'' under the Act either on their own or through NGOs. According to the commission, many corporates, particularly in the government sector, also run medical facilities and these too could be notified under PWDV Act. The issue of corporate funding towards creation of infrastructure under PWDV Act could also be considered.
Anti-dowry law makes it wife-biased, discriminatory, and poorly formulated. A complaint from your wife or her family member can land husband and his entire family in jail without any investigation. "The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist." - Winston Churchill
