HYDERABAD: A couple set themselves ablaze, one in their house and the other at the busy Sanjeevaiah park in broad daylight, today evening reportedly due to domestic problems. The couple had an altercation over the husband coming home drunk in the afternoon without going to work.
The couple, 22-year-old Padma and 24-year-old Dayanand were natives of Karnataka. They migrated to the city five months back and are residing at Chuttala Basthi besides Ramgopalpet police station.Dayanand is a vendor while Padma works as a maid.
“Dayanand came home drunk today afternoon and an argument took place between the two over the former’s addiction to alcohol. In a fit of rage, Padma doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze,’’ Ramgopalpet police inspector V Raja Rao said.
Dayanand made a vain attempt to rescue his wife but as she got engulfed in flames, he ran out of the house. Neighbours later shifted her to a hospital.Dayanand fled from the house and went to Sanjeevaiah Park and set himself ablaze after dousing with kerosene.Passersby doused the flames and shifted him to a hospital.
Anti-dowry law makes it wife-biased, discriminatory, and poorly formulated. A complaint from your wife or her family member can land husband and his entire family in jail without any investigation. "The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist." - Winston Churchill
