In a bizarre incident, a woman got her mother abducted in order to settle a property dispute in Agra district’s Achhnera area on Thursday evening, but locals caught hold of one of the kidnappers and lynched him.
The incident took place at Raibha village, when Beermati — a resident of Mathura district’s Shergarh area — arrived at her maternal uncle Mangal’s residence in a Bolero, accompanied by husband Satyaveer and five armed men, said Agra DIG LV Antony D Kumar.
Beermanti and the others caught hold of her mother Jal Devi, dragged her out and dumped her into the vehicle. As they were about to drive away, Mangal pounced upon one of the men and pulled him out of the vehicle. In no time, a crowd gathered and started beating the man, the DIG said.
A sub-inspector and three constables from a nearby outpost rushed to the village and tried to rescue the man, but in vain. The locals dragged him to the Agra-Fatehpur Sikri Road, beating him on the way. As the outnumbered policemen watched, the man was lynched. Following this, the crowd blocked the road. Senior officials rushed to the spot, managed to pacify the locals and retreived the body.
Asharam Ahirwar, SHO of Achhnera police station, said the deceased has been identified as Kripal Singh — a resident of Mahrauli area in Mathura district.
According to the DIG, Jal Devi — who owns land worth over Rs 2 crore — had been staying with her brother. Beermati, her only daughter, wanted the property in her name.
About two months ago, Beermati had sought help from the police, saying her mother was being forcibly kept, but Jal Devi had refused to accompany her. On Thursday, Beermati hired some men to have her mother abducted, said Kumar.
Police teams are conducting raids to trace Jal Devi and the other accused. A case of murder has been lodged against a mob of unidentified men for killing one kidnapper, the DIG said.
Anti-dowry law makes it wife-biased, discriminatory, and poorly formulated. A complaint from your wife or her family member can land husband and his entire family in jail without any investigation. "The power of the Executive to cast a man into prison without formulating any charge known to the law, and particularly to deny him the judgment of his peers, is in the highest degree odious and is the foundation of all totalitarian government whether Nazi or Communist." - Winston Churchill
