Hyderabad tops in dowry cases

Hyderabad, April 26: Districts in Rayalaseema have been reporting the lowest number of 498 A cases in the state for the past three years.
Kadapa and Anantapur register less than 100 cases a year, whereas the State capital registers around 1000 cases a year and West Godavari district reported more than 500 cases.
Hyderabad City reported the highest incidence of dowry harassment crimes in the state followed by Cyberabad, West Godavari and Karimnagar.
Prakasam, Chittoor, Nellore, Srikakulam, and Vizianagaram districts reported the lowest number of dowry harassment cases.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau, Andhra Pradesh accounted for 12.3 per cent of total cases of crimes against women in the country with figures of 24,111 in a countrywide total of 1,95,856.
Andhra Pradesh is among the five states reporting the highest number of dowry harassment cases.
Though the police claim that the conviction rate in dowry harassment cases is around 20 per cent, women’s organisations say it is less than 10 per cent.
