VARANASI: Succumbing to the alleged harassment by police, a 32-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself in Khargsenpur village under Kerakat police station in Jaunpur district on Wednesday night. Locals blocked the Kerakat-Jamalpur Road, demanding action against the guilty police personnel.
According to reports, Jogendra Gupta stated in his suicide note that he was being harassed and beaten up by the police (of outpost) in a dowry case lodged by his wife Reena five years back. It was alleged in the suicide note that policemen including outpost incharge Vikas Pandey and two constables Prabhunath Ram and Madhusudan harassed him. He was married to Reena, a native of Azamgarh, about 10 years ago. She had lodged a case of dowry torture against her husband and gone to live with her parents.
The jam was cleared after the intervention of senior officials. Jaunpur SP SK Bhagat said the matter would be investigated and appropriate action taken.
